My First Braidout!!!!
I did it! My very first braidout!
By looking at different posts, I knew I would enjoy braidouts and I was right! Although my hair is still short, I did get the results I was looking for. I was just sitting at home and then looked at myself in the mirror and said, I guess I better start styling NOW!
Day 1
Step 1
I lightly dampened my hair with the ACV rinse and peppermint mix I have.
Step 2
I then sectioned off my hair and different parts and braided them. At the ends I used rubberbands and tucked the ends up so the bottem could get some curl. Approx 20 plaits.
Step 3
Took a spritx mix and lightly sprayed and then went to sleep.
Day 2
I unplaited all the plaits. Finger combed it. Then tried a few different styles to see the versatility with the braidout.
- All down
- Up-do
- One side up with the back down
- Two sides up with the back down
Tip: In an earlie post, I described how tightening my hair when it was wet caused much breakage. So Although I lightly dampened my hair, it was very light. Once it was all plaited up, I added more of the ACV mix I have.
The spritz I used wasn't diluted enough, so maybe the next time I will just use the ACV mix or water.
What can I say? I love it! I will be rocking this style quite often. Especially becuase this style offer you so much from when the crinkles start to fall, you just make a new style. Hope you gals like!

1st Year Anniversary
I am really proud of my hair because I have been maintaining it mostly on my own. It started out sooo short and at times I was wondering how long I would keep it up.

What's a girl to do?

These channels report only what they want you to know...
---
ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or MSNBC.
On 20 August 2009, on a segment of the "Glen Beck Show" on FCN (Fox Cable News) ...
was the following:
"Today even though President Obama is against offshore drilling for oil for this country.. He
signed an executive order to loan 2 Billion or more of our taxpayers dollars to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company (which is the 8th largest company in the entire world) to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil.
The oil that comes from this operation is for the sole purpose and use of China and not the USA .
The Chinese government is under contract to purchase all the oil that this oil field will produce, which is hundreds of millions of barrels of oil".
We have absolutely no gain from this transaction whatsoever.Wait, it gets more interesting:
Guess who is the largest individual stockholder of this Brazilian Oil Company, and who would benefit most from this ---???
It is American Billionaire, George Soros, the Liberal businessman who is a radical left wing supporter, finances "MoveOn.org <http://moveon.org/> " as well as other liberal programs, and was President Obama's largest and most generous supporter during his campaign.
If you are able to connect the dots and follow the money, you are probably as upset as I am.
Not a word of this transaction was on any of the other news networks.
Forward this factual e-mail to others who care about this country, so they may see where it is going.
Does anyone think this was the type of change Obama meant ---??? Or, maybe it was.
Let all of your Government representatives know --- how you feel about this. You can only wonder WHAT President Obama ---is getting out of this ---???
This is in reference to the email sent and other emails sent with the same sentiment.
I am a supporter of our President of the United States of America, President Obama. I would never take information in an email as truth. Please go to a political fact check and also actually read the transcripts and the bills that are being signed before you listen to someone's opinion as truth. News organizations are now biased and have left the realm of reporting accurate facts to entering into a realm being a video blog full of opinions and personal views.
There has never been a President in recent times that has actually worked for the platform he stood on, once elected. He is actually working to fix the problems he inherited. You can never please anyone all of the times, but if you are not happy with how things are going, instead of trying to confuse the nation with a bunch of misleading propaganda, one would think that providing a better solution would be a bit more helpful.
And as far as the cute little girl in debt with the dollhouse. Thank President Bush for that. He came in office with a surplus and left with the biggest deficit of all times. So yes, thank you Mr. President, but remember to thank the right one.
Anyway, like I said, I am a supporter of President Obama. I may not agree with everything thing he does, but I do support him, so those types of emails are not welcomed in my inbox.
P.S. If there was truth in anything that would make President Obama look bad, it would be over ALL of the networks.
Thanks!

Color me Copper! Oh Wow!
Oh Wow! I did it! I kind of just let the girl just do my hair. It is colored a copper color and it was retightened with the latch hook. The color is more in the front with hi-lighted tips throughout the rest. The tips look kind of bright, but I am sure it will relax as time goes on. Tell me what you think!

In the USA
Hey everybody! I finally made it back to the states for vacation! First stop was the hair dresser. I got my hair done in Atlanta, GA as soon as I left the airport.

Update: Operation Getting Our Groove On!
So we land in Bahrain at about 0920. First stop, Duty Free. Vodka and Coconut Rum. With that we could have a party in the room, we head to the hotel. After the hotel, it's on to get some breakfast. I was hungrier than a hippo! It is was beautiful in Bahrain! We go get breakfast at this little quaint place called the Dome. The food was really nice and it was right by the Navy Base.
Then we went to the Navy Base and Well Aloha Mr. Navy! When I say there was eye candy everywhere. It was like Baskin Robins 31 Flavors. We were talking to everyone and smiling. We met some folks and within minutes, we had numbers and places to the go for partying.
Let's just say, we have open invitations to go back to Bahrain and we don't have to pay for a hotel. Mr. McDreamy right here offered me keys to his spot to come back whenever I wanted. Of course I didn't take his keys, but I do plan on going back.
I had so much fun, I really want to live there now! Anybody hiring? lol

Operation: Getting our Groove On!
Bahrain - Here I come!!!I am the young one out of the bunch, but I guess you can say I have an old soul. One of my girls is turning 48 on July 4th! I am declaring this Operation: Getting our Groove On! (kinda like how Stella got her groove back, but we never lost ours! :) And we won't be bringing home any gay men lol!)
I don't know what's going to happen but check back for the update. Alcohol is illegal in Kuwait, but not in Bahrain. Anything can happen and if something looks a little suspect, I'll just blame it on the Al- al- al- al al- al- Alcohol! LOL

Is Anyone Out There???
I had been wondering if anyone was reading my posts because for the last 4 or 5 posts, I received no comments. I finally figured it out. I believe I had something incorrectly set in my comment settings. The problem has been fixed.
If you would like to, feel free to comment away. Nothing feels better than knowing that someone is reading the things you write. Thanks!

Disappearing Locks - Hair Loss
I am a DIYer and recently I had noticed my hair thinning on the sides. It doesn't help that my hair is already thin, but what I realized as the culprit to the additional thinning and eventually missing locks was the way I was tightening the locks.
When I first started, I was constantly retightening the front of my locks. As I would tighten them, I would prefer to tighten them wet so I would spritz them with water. I like the look of them when they were nice and wet! And I would also make them super tight.
A couple of months later, I noticed more space in between my parts with less hair in the squares. As a result of reading a post about Martine's hair loss, I realized I needed to quickly make a change. I mean I had locks hanging on by a threads of hair in the front sides.
So, as a result, I never tighten my hair when it is wet. And I don't tighten the locks too tight anymore. I am also allowing more time in between my retighten sessions as to not strain the fragile locks in the front.
Since I have made these changes, my hair is starting the grow in again. If anyone else has experience this, please let me know and let me know what you did to start you hair to speed up the hair growth.

Like a Virgin
I finally took my locs out side of my comfort zone and took the wig off and walked out of the house with my locs and some shades.
Yes, it was like a virgin. My very first time in public without my wig and only my locs. Here are some pics I shot in my car on the way to church.

6 MONTHS ANNIVERSARY
I finally made it! YES I DID! I made six months on April 5th, 2009. Here are a few comparison shots from the beginning. See the changes. I am really surprised to see the difference, because when I look at my hair, it looks still looks really short, but when I compare the pictures to day 1I can really see the growth.

~ME DAY~
NEWSFLASH:
Just in! It's Official! I have declared 1 weekend out of the month "ME DAY"
Me Day is a celebration of the obligation we have to ourselves to take care of ourselves. On this celebration, you should reclaim things that make you happy that you have neglected because of your obligations to others. This is the time when you prioritize and you put yourself on the top of the list, instead of waiting for someone else to do it. Make ME HAPPY DAY!
If you want to sleep all day... it's okay.
If you want to lay around in your pajamas... it's okay.
If you want to watch movies all day... it's okay.
If you want to turn your phone off... it's okay.
It's okay to do whatever makes you happy and relaxed.
Me Day is a good time to:
- Get spa treatments (pedicure, manicure, facial, massage)
- Get hair done
- Read a book
- Be lazy
- Walk on the beach
- Take a trip
- Girls day/night out
- Go Shopping
- Life Analysis
- Go to the park
- Skate, ride a bike, work out
- Make you happy!
- SPOIL YOURSELF
***Disclaimer***
Please be aware that people may ask you why you look so happy. Spread the word. This is not a federally paid off day. Your PTO will be deducted if you celebrate on your work day.
When you have your ME DAY Celebration, Tell you what you did for your ME DAY Holiday and how you felt after. I can't wait to hear your story.

What a mess!
I know I have been MIA, but I have a really good reason! I am hosting an Inaugural Ball in Kuwait and it had really been taking a lot of my attention. It is going to be awesome and definetly a night to remember.

I had an arrangement with this lady for us to do each other's hair, but that is not going to work out. I have done her hair 3-4 times and this is the first time she had to do my hair and it is not finished and if I have to wait on her, it may take another month. Not to mention, she was haphazardly doing my hair and I have a few bumpy knots in my locks. Talk about being upset!!!!!

Basheer: The Great Below
If you guys read my tagged entry, I wrote about the cold wax basheer. Well, recently, that basheer took a trip to The Great Below! lol.
Of course we tiddy up down there, (the bikini area) but usually not wax. So this was my first time having someone else doing it. I was kind of embarrassed and a bit uncomfortable, almost like my first pap, but she was very professional. She was like, "I will give you a design and then the other lady was saying she would put a henna tatto down there and all. Waayyyy to much for me at this point, but maybe one day... and maybe not, but can I say painful? The pain doesn't last long, just when they rip the hair out. The results are great, but beauty comes with a price. I definitely don't want her job.
Has anyone ever had a brazilian wax? How is that?

O-Day November 5th, 2008
Today I woke up like I had an internal clock in my body. I normally wake up at 0330, but this morning was different. I woke up (without the assistance of my alarm clock) renewed and refreshed.
Of course the first thing I did was turn on the tv to see what choice America had made. Before I left the house, only two states were called. Vermont and West Virginia. On my way to work, I could only cry and pray and pray and scream and cry some more. I was thanking God for what I already knew would pass.
When I got to work, I tuned in the ABCNEWS.com and with over 16 states left to be called, I knew the world was headed for change!
This election has renewed the faith the American people once had in the American Dream and has reinforced and proved that "ONE VOTE DOES COUNT!"

TAG! I'm IT!
1. Link to the person that tagged you.....
2. Post the rules on your blog
3. Share 6 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself that have not been shared already
4. Tag 6 random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs
5. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
I've been tagged by: ROCKINLOCZ
http://naturalandlovinit.blogspot.com/

1) I love rockin Wigs. There is unlimited versatility and no salon wait. Let's see, will it be Tanisha, Sherry, or Roxanne today?
2) I love Bree Vandercamp of Desparate Housewives. She is simply the bomb! Bree can make the most embarrasing moment look like nothing happened at all. She has the gift of throwing killa dinner parties and she will do what it takes to make sure she lands on her feet.
3) I love wedding planning shows. Infact, I have already planned my wedding, but no fiance. It's at the point where I just need to insert groom. ;)
4) I love sweets. Anything, but not really a fan of chocolate.5) I love waxing my under arms with Basheer. Basheer is a cold wax. Waxing my underarms hurt very much because that is already a sensitive area, but I love the results. I only have to wax once a month and the skin is left smooth and the hair that grows is so soft. You don't get the prickly feel that you get when you shave when the hair starts to grow back. Also, my dark spots under my arms have started disappearing.

6) I love nail art on my toes. Usually I just do the big toes and I get soooo many compliments. Plus I lke looking at pretty things. The next time, I just may post some pics of my toes. To the left are someone elses.Posted by The Real Nique at 10/16/2008 08:36:00 PM 6 comments Links to this post

Before My Crazy Chop!
Before I cut my hair off, I actually had a decent head of hair. This chop was more dramatic for my then boyfriend than it was for me, because this would be the third time I cut my hair all the way off to start over after I had breakage.
The first chop, I was about 10 or 11 years old. I believe I had that Leisure Curl that went terribly wrong LOL. I went to get braids and the braider told my mom, she should cut my hair off and start over with braids after it had grown out. I don't know what in the world she was thinking. I just remember crying my heart out. You can't imagine how sad I was and my mom actually wanted me to go to school like that!! Boy was that a hard time, but it made my skin a bit thicker.
(My relxed hair days)
The second time, I messed around and used this perm called Design Essentials, but I think the lady left it in too long! My hair started breaking off on the sides! So I just cut it all off!
So this time around, I am used to just starting over. Snip snip here, chop chop there and clip be gone. Almost like a Britney Spears moment. LOL.

The RACE IS NOT WON... YET
I remember as a child going through an old chest my mother had stored under some blankets and other things. I remember her telling me to go through it and get the coins on the bottom. Before I could reach the pennies, nickles and dimes, (you know I thought I was about to be rich) I stumbled upon some of my mother's most treasured things. I remember pulling out this dress, my mother's wedding dress. One of the other items, other than the million pictures and photo albums which highlighted my mother huge stylishly chic afro was a magazine with Martin Luther King, Jr. on it. I asked my mother about Martin Luther King, Jr. I wanted to know where she was and what was going in her life? She still had the magazines and it was a time that she would never forget. And it made me ask myself, while Barak Obama is making history, what will I remember doing?
My question to you: At this history making point, what will be your contributions? Will you be reading about history or will you be making it? Even overseas, I rallied and told myself, there is something I can do! I can help others register. So I can remember being a part of the largest voter registeration driver EVER! You will be surprised at how many people over 40 have never voted before, but have made it their business to vote in this election because they realize how much is at stake. Just me alone, I have helped over 100 overseas citizens register and/or request their absentee ballot.
I bring this up just to let you know that no matter what the polls say, the votes are not in yet and the fat lady has not sang. Although the polls are encouraging, they are not the last word. There is still work to be done. If you can, vote early and when you go, take someone with you.
Wearing the shirts, the buttons and hats are fine, but people, please know that while that support is uplifting, it will not get Barak into the white house! We can claim the victory now, but we still have to vote for it to come to pass. This is destiny! Do your part! YOU HAVE TO GET OUT AND ACTUALLY VOTE!!! VOTE EARLY AND TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU! My vote is in the mail! Signed, seal and delivered! Where is yours?
This was what Dr. King dreamed about and now we have the chance to LIVE THE DREAM!

So Excited! Finally Finished

I am so excited about my new finished do! I am having fun with make up and my hair. I love how my braids just have this natural curl to the ends. It took a while for me to redo my braids in the front, but I am happy with my finished product. Let me know what you think.

Braidlocks are Here!!!!
After trying to decide which way I would go to lock my hair, I decided to go with braidlocks. The main reason is because I am out of the country and there are no SL consultants here and with the economy in the state that it is in, I probably will be here for a while. But, with that said, braidlocks were the most logical way for me to go.

Why Smile???
If anybody knows me, they know that I have been through some things. But that is one of the major reasons I can smile.... because I have BEEN THROUGH and I HAVE COME OUT! I am not stuck there. I am better and things have worked in my favor!
For the friends I lost... I gained more friends that are closer than family!
For the drama I lost... I gained peace!
For the mother I lost... I gained appreciation for the people I have and gained more of GOD!
For everything I thought I had lost... I received more!
You know what, sometimes the things that we go through is not about how bad they affect us and how bad we feel like we have been wronged, but instead of how good God's Grace is and wonderful and almighty God is.
So Why do I smile... because I have a lot to smile about and it is a choice that I make to be happy rather than to sulk and be sad.
Instead of having only one parent left... I could have none!
Instead of having a small house... I could have none!
Instead of having a regular job... I could have none!
Instead of whatever the situation... I could always have less!
So instead... I will be grateful!

Plus it's hard to feel sad with a big smile on your face.
Learn that God loves you and you are worthy of your own love! Fall in love with yourself and you will smile like I do! You can't please everybody, but you surely can be pleased with the person you are. And baby, no matter how much people try to take your joy, He will still bless you and nobody can stop it!!!
The more they try to take from you, the more they take from themselves and the same goes for you. It would be nice if holding on to anger, resentment and hatred would really hurt the person it was directed to, but it doesn't. It only hurts you. You are the one thinking about it! Your anger consumes you! Your anger is taking up space in your heart that could be filled with love. Your anger is taking up space in your mind when you could be thinking about something good, but you are not. You are thinking about them when they could care less about you and may not even know what you are mad about or that you are mad at all. Your anger is having you bound when you could be free!!! Do yourself a favor and let it go and forgive for your sake. So you won't be the bag lady. Carrying those extra bags of hate, anger and resentment are heavy bags to carry and I am sure you are dealing with enough than to work against yourself. Forgiveness will lighten your load. Wow!!!!!!
I don't really know how I got from a smile to all of this, but... I know this is for somebody, just as much as it is for myself. Take from it what you can. I just had to share this! Smile :)

Make it do what it do baby!
Ain't life a bitch sometimes. Well, just get over it! Everything that happens in life is not always favorable and isn't what we expected or wanted. The thing is, you have to react positively from the events that happen in your life and more positive things will follow.
Case and point. I came to Korea to visit and get away from Kuwait. My expectations were stated to my host before I arrived but when I got here, my host got flip mode.
I arrived in Seoul on Friday night and woke up Saturday ready to get out and sightsee and whatever. So I asked what's going to be the first thing we do. Host was like, nothing. Host wanted to rest and stay in the house. Wrong answer. If I wanted to look at 4 walls, I could have done that in Kuwait.
So I politely told Host that he was going to do that alone, cause I was getting out. So I did! I was not going to allow Host to be the reason I didn't do the things I wanted to do while I am here.
Do you know I got myself to the mall, met a new friend and went to lunch and post and got my nails done. While on post, I saw and old friend Cpt H from Kuwait and met two more friends! I drunk so much, let's just say I was really happy. lol. Man...... Day 1 was a blast and each day to follow was even better. I met more kind and fun people than I ever thought could really be out there.
One monkey don't stop no show! When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And I do like Lemonade! LOL. We really do control our happiness.
So let the adventures begin and make it do what it do baby!

The Story...
So here is the story...
I am all the way out here in Kuwait and my beautifully relaxed hair has begun to feel the wrath of the unrelenting sun. I have have gone from braids, to sew-ins and back and forth to relaxers. After the last set of kinky twist, I noticed an alarming amount of breakage.
So, when I was younger, locs always intrigued me. I loved seeing well groomed locs. I had thought about getting some, but working in corporate, I guess you could see why I thought again.
Now being in Kuwait, it's a different situation. And the recent breakage prompted me to do something drastic. Yes!!! I mean drastic!!!! I took some clippers and went to town. I had my little boyish haircut going, but then I noticed I missed a spot. I went back to touch it up and I started to see hair fall and I was like, dang, I didn't miss this much. Where is all of this hair coming from? Do you know I forgot to put the guard back on the clippers. lol.. I was like, oh well. So Me and Montell look like we might have went to the same barber, but that was like 6wks ago (28FEB08) and it has grown back.
So I decided I didn't want to perm my hair again so I started looking for alternatives and what types of options were available. I love locs, but I love variety and I change just as much as the wind does, so I want something that I can change styles and have diva style! That search brought me to the sisterlocks blogs and official site. I was very impressed and made the decision to do it, so now I am just wearing my beyonce lace wig and other wigs and waiting for my hair to grow to a nice length for me to get started with the sisterlocks.
I have been looking at all of the sisterlocks blogs and I really want to say thank you for all of the previous post by all of the other beautifully locked sisters, because you gave me that extra umpf to make the decision to get locked up! With each picture my love for locks grew! THANK YOU!Nique
